Conference Re-Cap

Filed under: Daily Life — Christine at 10:04 pm on Saturday, October 30, 2010

We had conferences this week! Here’s a re-cap.

Dane – Kindergarten.  He is doing well, although apparently he enjoys talking a bit much.  I could have told you that though!  He is CONSTANTLY talking at home too!  I feel bad because often I find myself realizing I have no idea what he is talking about because I have kind of learned to tune him out half-way because he is always saying something…  I need to work on that.

He apparently also has a friend – who is a girl, who his teacher claims she has never seen something so mutual and so constant in all her years.  HMMMM  They play together at recess generally holding hands..  HMMMM   When we asked him at home he said he doesn’t play with girls and he NEVER holds their hands.  LOL  (He went to this girl’s house all day last Saturday to play too – they are good friends. :) )  I didn’t realize how good of friends until the conference…  which is hilarious because last year in pre-school they didn’t seem to get along all that great.

He also could not identify his ankle, or remember that Saturday is a day of the week…  Oh if only life remained this simple!  I love Kindergarten!

Christian – 2nd Grade  Christian is socially doing sooo well this year!  His teacher says everyone in his class LOVES him!  He seems very happy to go to school as well – so for that we are grateful.  It was not that way towards the end of first grade a couple years ago – so this is the best news.

Academically – he knows everything, just continues to struggle with reading and spelling.  There is improvement but it is quite slow.  We are considering taking him to get official dyselxia testing, and then if recommended by the center, weekly sessions.  (Cha-Ching!  It is so so so expensive!)  We know a couple other families in the area that are also using this center and are happy with the results.  I haven’t exactly figured out where the money is coming from to do this, but the idea is in our thoughts.

Other than that, we are feeling good about where we are at right now with him.  His teacher has been extremely flexible and understanding this year (same teacher as he had in 1st grade, but she seems to have changed some…)  I don’t have any complaints and I feel like we’re giving him the best education we can and we will continue to research options.

Ryan – 5th Grade  Ryan is doing well.  I LOVE his teacher this year and I think he likes her pretty well too.  He seems to be going through an emotional time, which I think is just coming with his age and pre-puberty (Lord help me!)  Out of the blue he has a couple days where he is just very irrational and emotional and then he snaps out of it for a bit.  I read online this starts now and continues through early 20’s.  GREAT – so encouraging!  We have been trying our best to fill his love tank so he feels secure and happy.

Academically, he is doing fairly well.  Standards are a bit higher in 5th grade, so I don’t think things are coming quite as easily, but he was still on A honor roll (he had a couple B’s – the rest A’s.)  But a B here starts at 93%, so I really don’t have any complaints.  He has it in his mind he can’t do history… (which I never did well or enjoyed that subject either – so I can hardly blame him!)  He also likes to take the easy way out sometimes – but then again, what kid doesn’t!  School just comes fairly easy for him – as it did for me.  And for that I am grateful!

10 HUGS

Filed under: Daily Life — Christine at 9:22 pm on Sunday, October 24, 2010

I hate it when I realize that our kids are out of a phase, and that I totally forgot about that phase until I am somehow reminded about it…  It’s the small little things that I never want to forget.  (that’s why I’m blogging about it now!)

So tonight when Matt was hugging the boys – he gave them all 10 hugs… and it reminded me… of when Dane always HAD to have 10 hugs before he would go to bed.  I had totally forgotten about that.

The little things, oh I pray we won’t forget.

Oh and by the way – last Friday (Oct 15th)Dane lost his 1st tooth too! Just 15 days after his 6th birthday.

First’s

Filed under: Daily Life — Christine at 8:30 am on Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Annika said her first sentence this morning:  “Mommy, I went poo-poo”.  :)   (which it wasn’t poo-poo – she calls all bathroom trips – “poo-poo”)  Nice first sentence huh?   he he

Last Friday Annika had her 2 year check-up.  She was 35 1/2” (with shoes) and 30.2 pounds (with clothes & shoes)  86% height and 87% weight – so pretty proportioned.

Ryan had his first basketball practice yesterday afternoon – he loved it!

I am STILL painting my kitchen – I am hoping to get the ceiling done today – it is driving me crazy trying to get all the lines out of it…  A friend told me I should be using flat on the ceiling instead of satin and that would have taken care of my problem.  A little late now though!

The Joys of Potty-Training

Filed under: Daily Life — Christine at 9:42 am on Monday, October 4, 2010

So Annika has been thinking about potty training for a good month or so.  She likes to sit on the toilet (yet rarely goes).

Last week she decided to pull down her pants and STAND at the toilet (obviously she has watched her brothers a few too many times…)  That didn’t work out so well for her… She is soooo confused!  LOL

This morning she woke up with a dry diaper!  I figured she had to go since it was dry, so off to the potty we went… and sat… and read books, and drank water, and bribed her with candy, and drank juice, and ran water, and tickled her, and drank more water, and painted her toenails…. for TWO (count them…) TWO hours.  Finally a tiny, 2 second trickle.  YEA!  Celebrations, relief we do not have to sit here any longer…

And I’ll let you guess what she did exactly two minutes later….

Yup, peed on the floor – about a gallon…  Guess we’re not quite ready yet!
